Strawberry Banana Smoothie

This Strawberry Banana Smoothie has been my little taste of sunshine this winter.   Bursting with juicy fresh strawberries, bananas and a protein boost from Greek yogurt, it is easy to make and always delicious!   The strawberry and banana combination is always a favorite and when whipped into a smoothie, becomes perfect for busy mornings, any time on-the-go or for an afternoon snack pick-me-up!

Smoothies are always a great recipe to get the kids involved – not only with preparation, but with shopping too!  Any healthy recipe that gets them excited about fruits and vegetables is always a good thing!

Lately I have been finding wonderful produce from Walmart that is organic too!  I am often shopping with my two favorite little helpers,  so it is important to me to make our shopping trips as quick and efficient as possible. Fortunately, many Walmart stores now have a special section devoted to organic produce, which makes it so easy to quickly find the organic produce that we’re looking for.  From avocados to carrots to grapes to potatoes to strawberries, we easily stock up on all of our favorites in one handy section of the store.  My kids know if they find the purple organic label, they can pick whatever they want!

In this Strawberry Banana Smoothie recipe, I love using fresh organic strawberries!  With the banana, I select one that is starting to turn brown for extra sweetness.  I slice the banana and freeze it overnight – this step is what helps yield a thick and frosty smoothie.  Then just whiz everything in the blender and enjoy!

Yields: 1 serving
Ingredients
  • 1 cup strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1 ripe banana, cut into slices and frozen
  • ½ cup nonfat Greek yogurt (plain or strawberry)
  • juice or milk (optional)
Instructions
  1. Put strawberries, banana and yogurt in a blender and process on high speed until combined. If desired, add a small amount of juice or milk until desired consistency is achieved. Pour into chilled glass and serve.
