The other day Adam and I made a trip to Walgreens for some Post Pebbles Cereal, but if you follow Alida’s Kitchen on Instagram, you already know this.  I had several tasty recipe ideas swirling about, but also wanted to show Adam that you can take everyday items, such as cereal, and be creative.  While I do have an easy recipe to share with you, first I have to tell you about the fun project we made with our Pebbles Cereal!

Pebbles Shakers-Supplies {Alida's Kitchen}

It’s hard to believe there are only a few weeks of summer remaining before we’re back to school.  Adam attended some fun camps this summer, and every day he brought home the neatest craft using every day things.   He made a bug using waxed paper for the wings.  He made a shark using a mailing envelope.  Paper plates were used for a mask, a shield, and other fun projects.  Some people are just so clever!  Since summer camp will soon come to an end, I wanted to continue encouraging Adam’s creativity and out-of-the box thinking.   Using everyday items (such as cereal) and other random items found around the house, we spent the afternoon creating a musical instrument!

Make Your Own Musical Instrument: Pebbles Shakers

Here’s what we used:

  • Post Pebbles Cereal
  • empty Altoid’s container  (an empty water bottle would work too)
  • tape – a sturdy tape, the more colorful the better
  • decorations, such as stickers, markers, buttons, feathers
  • glue

Here’s what we did:

  • First, fill the empty Altoid’s container with cereal.  Shake it to test and make sure it has the sound you want and add/remove cereal as desired.
  • Next, tape up the container.  Be creative with how you tape it.  There is no right or wrong way to do this, we just want to seal the container so it doesn’t open and you end up with cereal everywhere.
  • Last, decorate!  Customize your shaker to reflect you!   Adam loves stickers and googly eyes, so he used lots of those.  You can use feathers, pipe cleaners, make it wacky and fun!
  • Now play your favorite music, sing, dance, and shake your shaker!

After all that singing and dancing, we need something to refuel, right?  Who doesn’t love a little Dirt Pudding!  For a fun twist, I decided to make Cocoa Pebbles Dirt Pudding recipe.  It’s the same concept as regular dirt pudding – chocolate pudding, “dirt” on top, and a gummy worm.  Only in this case, the “dirt” is Post Cocoa Pebbles Cereal!   It’s delicious, crunchy, and (depending on your pudding recipe) gluten-free!

Cocoa Pebbles Dirt Pudding

Cocoa Pebbles Dirt Pudding is the same concept as regular dirt pudding – chocolate pudding, “dirt” on top, and a gummy worm. Only in this case, the “dirt” is Post Cocoa Pebbles Cereal.
Ingredients
  • chocolate pudding
  • Post Cocoa Pebbles cereal
  • gummy worms
Instructions
  1. Pour pudding into desired serving containers.
  2. Sprinkle Post Cocoa Pebbles Cereal over top of pudding, mixing it around a bit to give an 'earthy' look.
  3. Insert a gummy worm into pudding, allowing the top portion of the worm to hang over the edge of the container.
  4. Grab a spoon and serve!
Notes
You can use already-made chocolate pudding cups or make your own pudding for this recipe. The amounts will vary based on number of servings, size of containers, etc. Have fun with it!
